In the beginning…
In the early 17th century, a wave of French Pioneers, known as the Acadians, set sail for The New World. Driven by hunger, a quest for freedom, fleeing from poverty, and persecution in their homeland. Opportunities in France were limited.
These brave souls were lured by the promise of fertile land, abundant resources and a chance to form an untamed life in the wilderness of Acadia.(now Nova Scotia, Canada)

Acadia…
“Dreams of a new home”
In the misty dawn of their existence in Canada, the Acadians had cultivated a thriving community, French heritage and Catholic faith were the very fabric of their daily lives. The winds of change blew in the British, who, having seized control of the region, demanded that they swear allegiance to the British Crown. Acadian’s refused to betray their roots, and stood in their convictions. The British, unyielding in their demands, orchestrated The Great Expulsion of 1755.
Louisiana
The arrival
When the Acadian’s arrived in Louisiana, they found themselves in a vastly different world then the home they had just left. All the Acadian’s who survived where left to acclimate to a new way of life. Louisiana provided humidity, swamps, and prairie land. Many of them were unfamiliar with these landscapes. Acadia was coastlines and rocky hills. Despite the challenges, the Acadians were able to reidentify with a piece of what they once were.

Q&A
What are some of the other places the Acadian’s landed?
Good question, France and other European countries. Some went to American Colonies, South Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Maine. And some, went to new places like Newfoundland, and some even returned to Acadia after the war.

Why exactly were the Acadian’s Expelled?
I think there where several reasons, non of which were just, they where catholic and that was not apart of the same beliefs as the British, they were able to trade with the Indigenous people, the British were not able to accomplish this, and were loyal to France despite having to leave.

What is Mardi Gras?
Where?
Mardi Gras, festive day celebrated in France on Shrove Tuesday (the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday), which marks the close of the pre- Lenten season. The French name Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday, from the custom of using all the fats in the home before Lent in preparation for fasting and abstinence.
I thought it was only in New Oreans?
Mardi Gras is celebrated in various forms around the world, it is most famously associated with New Orleans, Louisiana. Over the centuries, Mardi Gras in New Orleans has evolved into a grand and extravagant celebration, deeply rooted in the city’s unique blend of French, African, Spanish, and Caribbean cultures.
What are the Mardi Gras colors?
The traditional Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold and green. When celebrating Mardi Gras, you can use any shade of the three hues. You’ll spot these iconic colors everywhere: on masks, dazzling Mardi Gras floats and countless other decorations throughout the celebration.
Why PURPLE GOLD & GREEN?
Purple for Justice
Green for Faith
Gold for Power
What do you eat on Mardi Gras?
Usually a gumbo or if it’s too hot a Jambalaya and of course, you can’t forget the King Cake. If you get the baby you buy the King Cake next year!
Traditions
We have several, being that it is apart of festival season, Rodeo starts, and Spring begins. First The Mardi Gras Parade, everyone loves catching the beads. Masks and beautiful costumes are apart of our traditions.

In the world of web development, the landscape of WordPress design is evolving rapidly.
As digital preferences shift towards more minimalist and efficient web experiences, WordPress has responded by introducing an innovative feature: block patterns. This transformative tool allows developers and designers to create pre-designed block arrangements, significantly streamlining the process of building visually appealing and functional websites.
The surge in block pattern utilization has led to a decrease in the average time spent designing web pages, with developers now able to deploy complex layouts in a fraction of the time previously required.

Particularly noteworthy is the rise of modular designs akin to the townhouse model in real estate, representing 1 in 5 WordPress projects. These designs optimize space and resources by emphasizing vertical layouts and minimizing the need for excessive elements, thereby reducing overall project costs and enhancing website performance.
This shift towards using WordPress block patterns marks a significant movement towards democratizing web design, providing a foundation for addressing the digital divide by making high-quality web design more accessible to first-time developers and small business owners.
Here are three takeaways:
- Efficiency Gains: WordPress`s block patterns significantly reduce the time and effort needed to design web pages.
- Modular Design Popularity: The adoption of modular designs, resembling the townhouse model in real estate, is becoming increasingly popular, making up 20% of WordPress projects. This approach maximizes the use of space and resources, leading to cost savings and improved website performance by emphasizing vertical layouts and reducing unnecessary elements.
- Democratization of Web Design: The introduction of block patterns is a step towards democratizing web design, making it more accessible to beginners and small business owners.
Building at scale
This is a pivotal step in leveling the playing field in the digital realm, mirroring the residential push towards more affordable housing solutions.
The WordPress community and theme developers are actively contributing to a growing library of block patterns, making it easier for users to find a pattern that suits their needs. Whether you`re building a landing page, a photo gallery, or a complex layout, there`s likely a block pattern ready to use. This democratizes design for non-technical users while offering developers a way to extend WordPress functionality and provide more options to their clients.
